A trusted name in Gippsland concrete for over 60 years
Donmix has been proudly serving the South West Gippsland region since 1963, when we delivered our very first load of pre-mixed concrete. Built on strong family values and deep local knowledge, we’ve grown into one of the region’s most trusted concrete suppliers. We supply residential, commercial, and industrial projects from Lang Lang to Foster, and from Phillip Island to Leongatha.
Over the decades, Donmix has earned a reputation for quality, reliability, and a willingness to deliver exactly what our customers need, whether that’s standard concrete, decorative finishes, or specialised mixes. Today, we operate five fixed concrete plants across the Bass Coast region, each strategically located to provide responsive service and local expertise.
Wonthaggi: Our operational heart, home to our head office, main workshop, and a recently rebuilt concrete plant.
Inverloch: Serving the vibrant coastal town and surrounding communities.
Newhaven: (Phillip Island Concrete) – Conveniently located on the Phillip Island Tourist Road.
Ventnor: (Evans Quarries) – Situated within the quarry on Back Beach Road.
Bass: Our newest high-capacity plant, replacing the original site at The Gurdies.
As part of Holcim Australia, Donmix benefits from the global strength of a world-leading building materials group. This partnership gives us access to cutting-edge technologies, innovative concrete solutions, and the resources to deliver superior service to every customer — while continuing to operate with the local values that have defined us for more than half a century.
The Story Behind the Name
The name Donmix reflects the Donohue family’s long-standing connection to concrete and construction in the region.
William (Bill) Donohue purchased his first tipper (along with a square mouth shovel) in the early 1950’s and set about doing whatever was required to put food on the table. Whether it be as a cartage contractor, winning and loading sand (by hand) for local concreters or cutting and delivering firewood.
In the mid 1950’s he obtained an Extractive Industry Lease at The Gurdies and built a crude sand washing plant. In 1963 he identified that a demand for readymix concrete had emerged and he delivered his first load of concrete in that year from The Gurdies Concrete Plant.
With the closure of the Wonthaggi mines a lease on the Old Powerhouse Site was obtained. A concrete plant was built and the first load of readymix concrete was delivered from the Wonthaggi concrete plant in 1970.
Evan’s Quarries was purchased in 1981 for a secure supply of aggregates to our concrete business. A concrete plant was subsequently opened on this site and operated from 1983.
Island Garden Supplies with its Newhaven and Inverloch locations including concrete plants at both sites was purchased in 2002.
Bill Donohue passed on in 1997 and the business was managed for decades his three sons, Kevin, Bryan and Paul until 2019 when Donmix was acquired by Holcim Australia, one of the country’s leading suppliers of construction materials, who have continued the tradition of excellence that was built by the Donohue family.
